Our resident DJ Jase was mentioned by Parisian beat maker Onra in an interview on Juno Plus. Onra grabbed the attention of many when he after the critically acclaimed 2007 release of Chinoiseries, an album strung together using samples from old Chinese and Vietnamese records he found while crate digging in Vietnam.
Here's what Onra had to say about the music scene in Vietnam and DJ Jase
'There is, but only in Ho Chi Minh City because there’s a DJ there called DJ Jase who’s organizing some parties and he’s doing a lot of stuff for the beat scene over there, and dubstep as well. I did two live shows, one in Hanoi which wasn’t really good because people were expecting something more uptempo maybe, more electronic shit… but Ho Chi Minh City was really good. The crowd was mixed as well, contrary to Hanoi. In Ho Chi Minh City, it was half Vietnamese, half ex-pats so it was good to play there, especially when I played this one song from Chinoiseries called “Last Tango in Saigon.” When I played it I got goosebumps because it means a lot to me.'
Great find! It's wonderful to see Jase receive the recognition he so richly deserves. Without his efforts, Vietnam's live music scene would be sorry indeed.

ReplyDeleteYou can ask for help easily in Saigon city there are many people can use English as their second language but their accent is not so clear. You can not get lost in this city because there are a lot of people around you and you can ask them for direction.
ReplyDeleteThere are two terminals the shining very pleasant new international terminal which took over all international flights in 2007 and the old but functional domestic terminal 200 meters away. Upon exiting the airport turn right and you will see the bus waiting there.
